Abstract:
This research paper examines the connection between the forlorn conditions of the coral reef in the Eilat Gulf to the location of the fish farms. The research claims that In spite of the long public struggle against them, the fish farms are not the sole factor causing the destruction of the coral reef. Moreover, their removal will not be beneficial but rather have a negative impact on Israel's mariculture (sea agriculture) and on the coral reef by enabling hotel construction and eventually a dismissal of thousands from their job. It describes the reasons of the pollution and tries to give some solutions. The conclusions are that the struggle against the fish farms is the wrong one and we will have more to lose if the fish farms will be removed.
