תקציר העבודה

My paper will discuss the way Maria's and Fenella's journeys in "Clay" by James Joyce and "The Voyage" by Katherine Mansfield accordingly, shed light on the development of the two protagonists and help us in understanding the plot. Maria, as we see, is a woman who is not young anymore, while Fenella is still a little girl. Despite their age differences, the protagonists have much similarity between them. These similarities become emphasized during the journeys that the protagonists are described to make, despite the fact that these differ very much if their purposes are to be considered. We see that the protagonists have to deal with harsh reality, while they can choose to either face or try to beautify it. However, the journeys' outcomes are much different for the protagonists. As for Maria, it seems, the voyage doesn't play a crucial role in her fate, while for Fenella it is a significant change, concerning her young age and the fact that the girl changes her living-place.
