Moral Development Questions based on paragraphs 1 and 2
1 . With regard to a child’s view of rules. What is the main difference between Piaget’s “state of moral realism” and “morality of co-operation”?
“state of moral realism” For young children, rules simple exist, and are absolute and can not be changed. If a rule is broken, the child believes that the punishment should be determind by how much damage is done, not by the intention of the child.
“morality of co-operation” Children come to understand that people make rules and people can change them. When rules are broken, both the damage done and the intention of the offender are taken into account.
